Kath’s Socks


Materials: 1 ball 4ply sock yarn 50g (MC)
                1 ball 4ply sock yarn 50g (CC)

Needles: set of 5 2.5mm or size needed to obtain correct tension
Tensions: 30st = 4"(10cm)

Important: it is essential to work to the stated tension to ensure success.

Abbreviations:
K - knit      beg - beginning       tog - together
P - purl       inc - increase         st(s) - stitch(es)
s - slip        k2tog - knit two stitches together
SSK - slip 2 stitches one at a time knitwise, place left hand needle through front of 2 slipped stitches and knit together
MC - main colour       CC - contrast colour

With MC cast on 64sts and divide evenly between needles. Join making sure the stitches are not twisted.
Work K2, P2 ribbing for 2.25" (6cms) increasing 2 sts on last round. (66sts)

Rounds 1 - 2: With MC knit.
Rounds 3 - 7: With CC, *K5, slip next st purlwise*, repeat from * to * to end of round.
Rounds 8 - 9: With MC knit.
Rounds 10 - 14: With CC, K2, *slip next st purlwise, K5*, repeat from * to * ending K3.
Repeat Rounds 1 - 14 four times.
Next round: With MC, knit.
Rounds 1 - 2: With MC knit.
Rounds 3 - 7: With CC, *K5, slip next st purlwise*, repeat from * to * to end of round.
Rounds 8 - 9: With MC knit.


Rounds 10 - 14: With CC, K2, *slip next st purlwise, K5*, repeat from * to * ending K3.
Repeat Rounds 1 - 14 four times.
Next round: With MC, knit.
Heel Flap
Row 1: With MC K3, (Sl 1, K1) 14 times, K2. Turn.
Row 2: Knit. Turn.
Repeat Rows 1 - 2 15 times. (30 rows).
Turn Heel:
Row 1: K3, (Sl, K1) 9 times, SSK. Turn.
Row 2: Sl, K9, P2tog. Turn.
Row 3: S1, (K1, S1) 4 times, K1, SSK. Turn.
Row 4: S1, K9, P2tog. Turn.
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until 11sts remain.
Next Row: K11.

Using needle with heel stitches on (Needle 1), pick up and knit 16sts along side of heel, K33 (Needles 2 and 3), with spare needle (Needle 4), pick up and knit 16sts along side of heel, K5.

Stitches should be set up as follows:-
Needle 1: 22sts
Needle 2: 16sts
Needle 3: 17sts
Needle 4: 21sts
Next Round: With CC K24, (S1, K5) 5 times, S1, K21.

Decrease Round
Needle 1: Knit to last 3sts, K2tog, K1.
Needle 2 and 3: Knit across keeping continuity of pattern.
Needle 4: K1, SSK, knit to end of needle.
Next Round: Knit, keeping continuity of pattern across Needles 2 and 3.
Work last 2 rounds until 66sts remain.
Continue as set until foot is 2" (5cm) shorter than desired length end on Row 1 or Row 8.

Shaping Toe.
Needle 1: Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1.
Needle 2: K1, SSK, Knit to end of needles.
Needle 3: Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1.
Needle 4: K1, SSK, knit to end of needle.
Next Round: Knit.
Repeat last 2 rounds until 30sts remain.
Knit across Needle 1.
Graft toe stitches together.
