You will learn how to cast on, knit and purl, two different types of decreases and make a button hole.
We'll discuss the different ways of casting on and you will learn about gauge and why it is essential. You will learn how to fix your own mistakes and recognize your stitches.

Gloves

Learn to knit gloves in a relaxed atmosphere, you will be working with double pointed needles or you could choose to use two circular needles or one long circular needle (magic loop).  We will look at the benefits of a row counter and how stitch markers can make your knitting more relaxing.  This glove pattern uses two different increases and you will be picking up stitches around fingers and reading and understanding your pattern. 
At the end of the this session you will have a pair of gloves that fit and more knowledge; as well as the confidence to start your next project.  Bring your current project to work on, I will be available with a range of different ways to adapt and personalize.
Materials: Holli Yeoh's pattern Guess Who? a ball of sock yarn, 2.75mm needles.  Stitch markers, row counter, stitch holder.

Learn to Knit

Materials: worsted weight or aran weight smooth light colour yarn.  The label should read 18 or 20 stitches to 4 ins (10cms).  4.5mm short wood or plastic needles.  No homework.

What the patterns
don't tell you

Homework With a smooth light colour yarn and appropriate needles for yarn cast on 20sts.  Knit 8 rows (garter stitch).  Place stitches on a stitch holder.  Knit another piece exactly the same and leave on needle.  Bring three needles approximately the same size to class.  This will be used to practice short rowing and three needle bind off.

Slouch Hat

Materials: 2 balls of light colour Alfa, M & K Alpaca or bulky weight yarn (the label should read 13sts to 4ins).  Needles: 5mm 40cm circular needle and set of 5 double pointed wood or plastic needles size 7mm.  Stitch marker,  Row counter.
Homework  With 7mm needles and project yarn cast on 19sts.
Row 1: Knit.  Row 2: Purl.  Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for  4ins.  Don't cast off.
This will be used to check your gauge and practice picking up dropped stitches.

Socks

Materials: 2 balls Sandnesgarn light colour Perfect.
Needles: set of 5 double pointed 4mm wood or plastic needles.  Pattern: Kelyarn #2601
Homework With 4mm needles and Perfect cast on 28sts.  Row 1: Knit.  Row 2: Purl.  repeat rows 1 and 2 for 4 ins.  This will be used to check your gauge.

Thrummed Mittens

Materials: 1 skein Briggs & Little Softspun or Heritage and 1 Briggs & Little Country Roving.  Needles: set of 5 double pointed needles sizes 3.5mm and 4mm in wood or plastic.  Pattern: Briggs & Little #105 Family Thrummed Mittens.  Row counter.  Stitch markers.  Stitch holder.
Homework With 4mm needles and yarn for project cast on 26sts.  Row 1: Knit.  Row 2: Purl.  Repeat rows 1 and 2 for 4 ins.  This will be used to check your gauge.

Ribbed Texting Gloves

Materials: 50g double knitting yarn, 3.5mm double pointed needles, stitch markers, stitch holder.  Homework With 3.5mm needles and yarn for project cast on 30sts. Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl. Repeat rows 1 and 2 for 4 ins. Don't cast off, this will be used to check your gauge and practice picking up dropped stitches.

Felted Slippers

Materials: 3 skeins Cascade 220, 9mm 60cm circular needles, Fiber Trends pattern AC33 or AC81, stitch markers.  Homework With 9mm needles and yarn for project cast on 20sts. Row 1: knit. Row 2: Purl. Repeat rows 1 and 2 for 4 ins.
This will be used to check your gauge.

Cabled Fingerless
Gloves

Materials: approx 90m aran weight yarn, 4.5mm double pointed needle, stitch markers, row counter, cable needle, stitch holder, Kelyarn pattern 2609.
Homework
With 4.5mm needles and yarn for project cast on 26sts. Row 1: knit. Row 2: Purl.  Repeat rows 1 and 2 for 4 ins. This will be used to check your gauge.

This easy to knit slouch hat is knit with large needles and bulky yarn.

Socks

 

 These socks are knit with a 
 worsted weight yarn so stitches
 are easier to see.  The yarn is
 called Perfect it is the perfect yarn
 for socks 80% wool 20% nylon
 and machine washable.

 


 

Thrummed Mittens

Thrummed mittens, with tuffs of wool on the inside these mitts are the warmest.  Learn how to work with double pointed needles, thrumming, adding a thumb, following a pattern repeat and compensating for increases and decreases.


 

Entrelac Mittens

Entrelac is an interlaced pattern of squares which are knit at right angles to its neighbour.
Learn how to knit backwards (purling with the knit side facing), picking up stitches from the right side and the wrong side, decreasing, increasing.
 

Knit on double pointed needles these fingerless gloves have cables, you will learn how to knit from a chart, use a cable needle to create cables.  Learn the benefits of using stitch markers and a row counter, two methods of increasing, picking up stitches and how to cast off loosely.


 Choose between a slipper or clog,
 these slippers are knit on 9mm
 needles with hand wash wool and
 then washed in hot water.

Cable and Lace Hat

Knit in the round this hat will give you experience using circular needles and double pointed needles.  You will use two different types of increase and three different ways to decrease.  Yarn overs and decreases are used to create the lace panel and a cable needle is used to create the cable panels.

 

 

Just like socks these gloves start with ribbing, then you start increase using either a left leaning increase or right leaning increase for the thumb.  After knitting the thumb you work the rest of the hand before starting the fingers, the little finger is worked first and then extra rows worked before the rest of the fingers.

 

Bulky Fairisle Hat
Knit with five stranded Country Roving on double pointed needles.  Learn two handed fairisle, how to avoid the 'jog' when you knit stripes, reading a knitting chart.

Bead and Lace Scarf
Knit from the bottom to the middle you will knit two pieces at the same time and then join the scarf with Kitchener stitch (grafting), reading lace charts, adding beads to your knitting and how and when you can fix your mistakes without undoing your knitting.
