Pre-Workshop Homework: Use worsted weight yarn in light to medium colour and 4.5 mm (US 7) needle to knit three small swatches as follows. Please do not work any special selvedge stitches. Swatches 1 & 2: Cast on 15 sts. Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 2 inches (5 cm), ending with WS row, then beginning with a knit row, work in Stockinette stitch for 3 inches (7.5 cm). Bind off. Repeat instructions for a second swatch in the same colour.
Swatch 3: Cast on 15 sts. Beginning with a knit row work in Stockinette stitch for 3 inches (7.5 cm). Do not bind off. Cut yarn leaving a 12 inch (30 cm) tail. Place stitches on a stitch holder or waste yarn.
It is recommended that you block your swatches so it is easier to work with them in class.
