Planning Your Steek-a-long

Steeking is an old knitting technique that many knitters are afraid to try. You first knit a sweater or tube in the round, then get out your sharpest scissors and cut it open to create a cardigan or object like a cup cozy. In this "first steps" class we'll help you prepare to steek as you choose a pattern, yarn and colours for a steeked project.

Why learn to steek? First, for bragging rights! It's the equivalent of bungee jumping for knitters - take a deep breath and cut. More practically, when you know how to steek you can turn a pullover pattern into a cardigan. If you hate to purl, changing a flat pattern into an in-the-round pattern eliminates those pesky purl rows, especially when you're doing colourwork.

Want a small project to learn stranded colourwork and steeking on? Join us for a Steeked Cup Cozy class.

Finally, take part in our Steek It Fall KAL Wrap Up on December 8, where we'll guide you while you take up your scissors and steek your project.
