What's New

July  2010

New for stitchers we have Read-Me-A-Rhyme Teddy Bear, twelve classic rhymes are displayed on the Teddy and instructions are included to help you put Teddy together easily.  Charms and buttons are included with the chartpack.

Two new patterns from Oat Couture, Prairie Blanket for baby, you can choose whether you want to use double knitting , worsted weight or chunky yarn for this blanket.  This is a interesting design as it is knit from corner to corner, you start by casting on 3sts. I like the beret and scarf pattern, knit with worsted weight yarn this will knit up fairly quickly.

Here's something different, using the PolarKnit yarn made from polar fleece I have designed a duster to fit on the 'Swifer'® holder.  These dusters are machine washable and the dryer just makes them work better.

There are more photos in the photo album including more cup cozies that look like a sock monkey and one of my holiday projects.

With stocktaking at the end of the month and new yarns arriving in August it is time to make some space.  We have yarn and stitching fabric on sale.

September 2009

More new yarns arrived!  New this month from Punta Yarns Mericash Hand Painted, the same merino and cashmere yarn the wristwarmers  and Mericash Scarf are knit from but Hand Painted.  Merisock Hand Painted is an incredibly soft washable merino and nylon for socks, gloves or a scarf.  Meritwist Hand Painted is a bulky weight merino which is as soft as only merino can be.  Need a quick beautiful gift?   I knit a scarf in an evening!  You can see the pattern in our free patterns section.

With all the new yarns something had to go!  We have some yarns on clearance.  Please remember colour on the monitor is not always exactly the same as the yarn.

From Holli Yeoh three new baby/kid patterns using self stripping sock yarn, a cardigan, a little jacket with collar and pockets and a really cute hoodie with kangaroo pocket.  These patterns start at newborn and go up to 4 year old size.  Two counting sweaters knit in double knitting weight yarn. One! Two! Three and Four! Five! Six!, each sweater has a big number on the front, the right number of spots on the back and stripes on the sleeve.  One! Two! Three! starts at 6 months and is sized up to 4 years and Four! Five! Size! starts at 2 years and is sized up to 8 years.

In the photo album I have added the thrummed mittens I have just finished and a scarf knit with Fleece Artists Blue Face Leicester Slubby.

August 30 2009

New cross stitch charts.  Chickadee is a new design from original artwork by Sue Coleman and a new addition to The Stitching Studio is Benjamin Chee Chee.

A new yarn from Sandnesgarn is Duett, this is 55% cotton and 45% wool.  It feels soft, you can see the swatches we've knit, so far, in the photo album.  Stephen's tension on the pink swatch is 18.5sts on a 4mm and 20sts on a 3.5mm.  On my blue swatch I'm getting 21.5sts on 4mm and 23sts on 3.5mm but I haven't blocked it yet.  This is a good example of why you need to do your own tension swatch.  Marks & Kattens Eco Ull and Eco Babyull are now available in colours, this beautifully soft wool is a minimum of 20% merino, also from  Marks & Kattens is Fame Trend a new sock yarn you have to see.

Of course, there are new patterns for these new yarns.  In Duett you will find a baby dress and bunting bag, a cardigan for little girls and a vest and cardigan for adults.  For the Eco Babyull there is a cute sheep sweater and a great leaflet full of socks, hats and neckwarmers for little ones and for the adults a toque and mittens pattern.  For the Fame Trend there are two sock patterns which also include mittens, gloves, a hat, shawl and neckwarmers as well as a short jacket. Also from SandnesGarn is a new book Mix Dame which has cardigans, vests, dresses and jackets using their light weight Sisu up to their bulky Alfa.

In the photo album you can see the gloves I knit using GarnStudio Fabel and Holli Yeoh's Guess Who? pattern.

The class schedule is now available.

There are still some more new yarns to come and I haven't made space for the Duett yet, I think I will have to have a small sale to make some space.  I will be in touch as soon as I have those details!

It's been a busy winter and with Spring on the way I have added some more of Cabin Fever patterns to the adult pattern section www.kelyarn.com/adults_patterns.htm most of these designs are knit in the round which means when you have finished knitting you are done - no sewing pieces together!  Look at the cute Swirling Sun Hat pattern from Canadian designer Lucy Neatby www.kelyarn.com/misc_patterns.htm - I knit this using the Ecoknit organic cotton.  Ecoknit cotton is grown in Peru without the use of pesticides, the cotton is grown in colour! so no dyes have been added www.kelyarn.com/yarn.htm
Something new and local in the yarn section is a Llama/merino wool blend from Lumby, BC.

On the stitching side we have two new Canadian companies Ourheirloom Inc and Studio Art Needlework two quite different styles but both with native influences.

new knitting kits.

The stitching chart section is slowly expanding and to make loading time
quicker I have put each designer on a separate page, you can see a list of
designers here www.kelyarn.com/stitching_charts.htm   You can click on your
favourite designer, or start at the top and work your way through.  The Next
button will take you to the next designer and the  Back  will take you to
the designer you have just visited.  New on our web page is Mar-Nic Designs,
located in Waterlooville, Ontario.  As an introduction I have featured some
of their Mother and Child designs.  These designs feature not only cross
stitch but a number of other stitches as well.

In the knitting patterns we have patterns from more Canadian designers
Cabin Fever has designs knit in the round, which means little or NO SEWING
when you have finished knitting.  Lanaknits Designs features her  hemp
yarns, her garter stitch sweater is knit sideways to emphasize the drape and
'swing' of hemp.  Of course, hemp is a very strong fiber and this makes it
an excellent yarn for the Shop 'til you Drop bag!

I am slowly adding shade cards to the yarn section, if the yarn you are
looking for is not listed or you would like more information (like price)
please e-mail me kelyarn@kelyarn.com and I will answer any questions.

As always, I think I have all the links working but if you find something
that is wrong please let me know.

August 2002

This weekend I have added some new cross stitch charts and kits to the web page.  You can see Cottage Lane's new wolf picture His Domain on Stitching Charts and the complete Northern Seasons series from Northern Designs available as charts on Stitching Charts Page 2, they are also available as kits on the Stitching Kits page.  Also new on the Stitching Kits page are some small kits from Lisa Overduin.

April 2002

Well, I've been tinkering again, I've changed the layout of some of the pages and added more information to the knitting patterns and kits.

In the Stitching Charts Page 2 I have added a new hardanger design by Northern Designs as well as some more charts. There are several new designs from Stitcher's Habit including Discover Wildlife - every parent can relate! Victoria Sampler has new designs including Friends are Treasures Sampler designed by Yvonne Reitsma who is know for her silk ribbon designs.

In the Miscellaneous Knitting Patterns there is a new shawl from Lucy Neatby and her excellent book Taking the Chequered Flag - Finishing in Style, if you have ever used one of Lucy Neatby's patterns you will know she gives excellent directions and this is true in her book. Also new in the patterns are some more of Woodsmoke Woolworks hats, and from a new Canadian company Woolen Earth some bulky weight hats.

We have a new wool from Counting Sheep Inn called Cindy-Lou, I used this 4ply fingering weight wool to make gloves this Christmas and a Fiber Trends Sheep Shawl, as soon as Stephen's camera is working again I will have pictures.

Have you ever used Eucalan Woolwash? They now have a new addition to the family - same great product now with the delicate fragrance of Lavender.

As usual, we will be taking our vacation the beginning of July, dates are on the Home Page as well as information on a display by the Okanagan Guild of Needle Arts at the Centennial Museum here in Kelowna (I have submitted seven pieces including the Sampler shown in our Photo Gallery).

Please have a look at the web page and do let me know if something isn't working as it should.

January 2002

I've been making some minor changes which I hope will make the web page easier to read and navigate.

There is a whole new page for our Photo Gallery - this is  a small selection of some of the items Stephen and I have made.

I have add two new free patterns.  In the Knitting section is Kath's Socks and in the Stitching section you will find Lynn Nicoletti's Canadian Teddy.

On each Links pages you will find that I have added some more links.

We wish you all a Happy New Year.

November 2001

Well I've finally made some changes - the biggest change is that I'm now making the changes myself!  So, if you find anything not working, spelt wrong, or just not right - please let me know and I will do my best to fix it.

In the  Knitting section I have add some new wool from a small farm and bed and breakfast in Mission, British Columbia.  These are available in their natural colour only and are limited editions as each year a different yarn is produced.  Amanda is an Aran weight which gives very good stitch definition and body, in Sami you can feel the natural oils from the wool and Imagine is a soft spun light and airy wool.

In the Stitching section under Charts Page One you will find some new charts from X's and Oh's.

Now that I have the programs to do it myself updates will be on a more regular basis.
